5 of the Best Examples in eCommerce Website Design

Your website is often the first (and sometimes only) impression a customer will have of your brand. Whether you’re launching a new store or refining an existing one, great eCommerce website design can dramatically improve user experience, increase trust, and boost conversion rates. But, what exactly makes an eCommerce website stand out?

In this article, the KIJO team (we’re specialists in website design in Birmingham) highlight five of the best examples of eCommerce website design — and first, take a closer look at what makes an eCommerce website truly excellent in the first place.

How to Design an eCommerce Website

Designing an eCommerce website goes far beyond choosing the right colours or uploading slick product photos. A truly effective online store seamlessly combines form and function, balancing visual appeal with technical performance and usability.

Here are some key elements every top-performing eCommerce site should include:

  • 1. Clear Navigation and Structure

Visitors should be able to find what they’re looking for within seconds. That means intuitive menus, clear category labels, and logical product filtering. A confused customer is a lost sale.

  • 2. Mobile-First Design

With over 63% of traffic now coming from mobile devices, your site must look and work flawlessly on smartphones and tablets. Responsive design isn’t optional; it’s now standard.

  • 3. Fast Load Speeds

Today’s shoppers have zero patience for slow sites. Every second of delay can significantly impact conversion rates. Optimising images, reducing scripts, and using reliable hosting are all essential.

  • 4. Trust Signals

Your eCommerce website design should instantly reassure visitors they’re in safe hands. Displaying customer reviews, clear return policies, secure payment badges, and recognisable delivery options can help build trust fast.

  • 5. Seamless Checkout Process

A lengthy or confusing checkout is one of the main reasons customers abandon their baskets. Use a simple, step-by-step process, offer guest checkout, and keep form fields to a minimum.

  • 6. Strong Brand Identity

Great design reflects your brand personality. Everything from typography and colour palette to tone of voice should feel cohesive and authentic to your business.

  • 7. High-Quality Product Presentation

Detailed product pages with sharp images, zoom functionality, accurate descriptions, and videos (if possible) help buyers make confident decisions.

How does your own site measure up against these principles? Remember, sometimes even the smallest improvements can make a huge difference!

KIJO’s Selection of the Top eCommerce Sites

We asked our in-house Senior UX/UI Design Expert, Danny Findon-Kent, to analyse and reflect on five eCommerce website designs. These sites accomplish a near-perfect balance of usability, aesthetics, and commercial effectiveness. They set the standard for what a modern, eCommerce store should be.

1. Natty Garb

This is a screen grab of Natty Garb's black and white themed homepage. A male model poses in all black clothing and sunglasses against a white pillar and stairs in low light. It reads 'New Drop. New Arrival. Live Now' The main menu runs a long the top of the screen. This is KIJO's first on the list of their top eCommerce website design inspirations.

Natty Garb is a fashion house based in New Delhi, India. It was established in 2016.

Natty Garb nails the art of personality-driven design. Its bold colours, chunky type, and playful illustrations create a visual identity that feels as rebellious and unforgettable as the brand itself.

2. Spylt

This is a screen grab of Spylt's beige/cream themed homepage. A can of strawberry milk and a can of chocolate milk with 20g protein in each frame the wording 'Freaking Delicious. Protein & Caffeine. Live life to the fullest with Spylt: Shatter boredom and embrace your inner kid with every deliciously smooth chug.' The CTA button reads 'Chug a Spylt'. This is KIJO's second on the list of their top eCommerce website design inspirations.

Spylt is Utah-based brand that sells high-protein, caffeinated, sugar-free milk drinks.

Spylt’s use of dark mode, neon highlights, and gritty video textures gives it a raw edge that doesn’t just look cool; it feels like a subculture. It’s immersive, unapologetic, and totally on-brand.

3. Moooor

This is a screen grab of Moooor's beige and pastels homepage. A moving line of products makes up the top section of the bar. There's a small heading that reads 'Pure. Natural. Complete' and then enormous typography along the bottom of the page reading MOOOOR. This is KIJO's third on the list of their top eCommerce website design inspirations.

Moooor is an Italian brand specialising in complete, natural and vegan superfood supplements.

What I love about MOOOOR is the discipline in its design. The neutral tones, careful spacing, and ultra-clean typography let the products and messaging breathe. Its design is a calming experience.

4. Koffiracha

This is a screen grab of Koffiracha's neon yellow and white homepage. A glass bottle of Koffiracha sauce sits on top of large, full screen typography that reads 'SPICY. TANGY. SWEET' The CTA button reads 'Explore Sauces'.

UK brand Koffiracha makes and sells a specialty plant-based hot sauce infused with single-origin coffee.

Koffiracha blends heat and heritage beautifully. The energetic gradients and handmade textures elevate a simple condiment into something that feels crafted, curated, and premium.

5. Collider

This is a screen grab of Collider's dark theme homepage. The entire page is black apart from a pinky/purple central square image; water splashes on it. Across this image is the word 'DISCOVER'. Below is the triple button CTA: 'Initiating discovery sequence. Beer. Botanicals. Mission.'
The top line displays a 10% code and then the menu line sits beneath that.

Collider is a non-alcoholic beer brand based in the UK.

Collider takes a bold leap by fusing wellness with sci-fi. Its vibrant, tech-forward aesthetic creates a world that feels exciting and different; something you want to be a part of.

How Much Does it Cost to Create an eCommerce Website?

This is Holyrood Distillery's website. 2 sections of the main eCommerce page displays different gins and whisky's across 2 diagonally tilted tablet screens against a black background. This eCommerce website was designed by KIJO. Click the image to read the case study for Holyrood Distillery.

The scope of any website can vary enormously. After a complimentary 30-minute consultation call with Kirk Thompson, KIJO’s Head of Partnerships, the KIJO team (we’re a Birmingham web design agency) will be able to produce a proposal for your project that will include costs. As a starting point though, a budget under £10,000 would not be realistic for an eCommerce website that is going to move your business forward.
