How Improved Navigation Transforms This Interior Design Website Design

Did you know that conversions drop by up to 95% if a webpage is cluttered or has too many elements? SE Designs’ – a remote interior design company offering full design services – interior design website design was falling short in several areas. This included user navigation and a cluttered design, making it difficult to attract the high-end clientele the business was targeting.

SE Designs approached KIJO for our web design help and expertise. After poor experiences with self-builders in the past, the company’s founder felt it was time to “level up” and create a more sophisticated online experience. So, we set to work. We delivered a sophisticated sitemap, improved navigation, and a sleek, streamlined mobile-responsive design. Here’s how we did it!

What SE Designs Interior Design Website Design Was Lacking

From the client’s feedback and our observations, we identified several core issues with the SE Designs existing interior design website design:

  • Mobile Responsiveness: The mobile version of the website did not respond well, leading to a poor user experience. This directly impacted user engagement and interaction with key elements of the website.
  • Visual Design and Branding: The existing website did not look luxurious enough. It was failing to reflect the contemporary brand identity that SE Designs wanted to project to its target market. The design elements, including the previous logo, contributed to an amateurish aesthetic, and the simplicity of the logo made it hard to read.
  • Sitemap Complexity: The website’s sitemap lacked simplicity. This was making it harder for users to navigate and access key areas like the portfolio and services. The user journey was cluttered, and the excess copy on the website made navigation difficult too.
  • Copy Overload: The website had too much text. This cluttered the design and distracted from the primary focus of showcasing SE Designs’ work and services. This made it harder for users to find the information they were seeking quickly.

The existing website’s shortcomings resulted in a poor user experience. It was failing to meet SE Designs’ business goals of attracting more enquiries and projecting a high-end brand image.

So, what did we do to solve these issues?

A Streamlined Sitemap, A Refined Design

KIJO developed a targeted redesign strategy to resolve these challenges and elevate the user experience. We set out to gain an improved navigation, design, and overall functionality.

Simplified Sitemap and Content

We streamlined the sitemap to focus on the most important sections — Projects, Services and the About page. The homepage was simplified with a focus on SE Designs’ portfolio and services, and the word count was reduced significantly across the website in order to focus on key messaging. This allowed for cleaner visuals and easier navigation, enabling users to find what they were looking for without distraction.

Refined Visual Design

A design system was created that introduced a more neutral, high-end colour palette and cleaner typography. We designed 17 contemporary blocks on WordPress that reflected a modern, professional aesthetic. The logo was also updated with a more legible typeface, however it maintained the simplicity of the original design. This approach aligned SE Designs’ digital presence with its premium more luxurious identity.

Improved Navigation & Interactivity

To enhance user engagement, we introduced interactive elements like the dynamic side-scrolling project block, which showcased SE Designs’ portfolio in a more engaging way. The side-scrolling feature allowed for unique background colours per project. This added visual interest and variety whilst maintaining a cohesive design.

Mobile Optimisation

A mobile-first approach was adopted (as with every project) to ensure seamless functionality across all devices. The mobile version of the website was fully optimised. Now, each section responding appropriately to the screen size. This resolved the previous mobile usability issues.

Enhanced CTAs

We introduced prominent calls-to-action (CTAs) throughout the website. These include a clear navigation button, secondary CTAs throughout the content sections, and large CTA blocks at the bottom of each page. These encouraged users to take action, such as booking an introductory call, leading to an expected increase in enquiries.

A Stylish, Sleek & Suave Interior Design Website Design

The redesigned SE Designs website addresses the key challenges present in the previous version. It offers a cleaner, more high-end user experience that’s aligned with the company’s brand. The 17 contemporary blocks designed for the WordPress website clearly achieve a modern, professional look. The neutral colour palette, cleaner typography and updated logo now convey a high-end, sophisticated image that aligns with SE Designs’ brand too.

The modern visuals, interactive design and simplified, improved navigation together create a seamless user journey. This works to encourage engagement and conversions.

Improved Navigation = Improved Ease of Use

The simplified sitemap and reduction in copy makes navigation more intuitive. User tests have shown that 95% of users successfully completed tasks. The tasks set were navigating to a specific project and making an enquiry. This proves the improved ease of use.

A Chic Design That Speaks to the Target User

A screenshot that proves 100% of users responded positively to the question: "Does this website (SE Designs) convey the image of a high-end, modern interior design brand?"

We surveyed an impartial group of users. We asked them the question, “Does this website convey the image of a high-end, modern interior design brand?”. 100% responded positively. This indicates that KIJO has created a website that mirrors the brand’s premium services.

By increasing the visibility and frequency of CTAs across the SE Designs website, we expect to see a rise in enquiries too. Ongoing tracking of conversions will confirm how well the redesigned website is driving business growth.

KIJO has successfully transformed SE Designs’ digital presence into one that reflects its high-end services whilst being user-friendly. Early feedback and key performance indicators show that our updated interior design website design is boosting user engagement. This is likely to drive more enquiries. These promising results set the stage for the company’s continued growth and success.
